Robert Stephen Rosenthal, of Howell, Michigan, passed away peacefully on January 25, 2026, at the age of 86.

Robert was born on February 19, 1939, in Rock Island, Illinois in his grandmother's home.

“A life well lived” truly sums up the way he approached his years—with fun, purpose, and deep love for his family.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Lynn Rosenthal; his daughters: Cathy (Doug) Stormzand, Liz (Rob) Haar, and Sheri Rosenthal; his stepchildren: Renae Berenson and Damon Kraft; his nine cherished grandchildren: Samantha, Joey, Brendan, Sarah, Stephen, Alex, Rachel, Maddy and Blake and three great grandchildren: Cade, Quinn and Brayden. The love of his entire family was evident in the never-ending stream of family members who came to show him love and support during his final weeks.

Robert, or "Rosey" as his colleagues knew him, was hired into Detroit Diesel as a Mechanical Engineer straight out of college.  He retired from there after 32 years.  He then hired into Rockwell, later to become Arvin Meritor, where he found great joy working with his team another 9 years.  He retired from Arvin Meritor and then started his own consulting firm, where he worked with Auburn University on fuel testing.  His dedication, intelligence, honesty and strong work ethic were well respected.

A man of deep faith, Robert generously gave of his gifts at his church, Shepherd of the Lakes Lutheran Church, where he was a devoted and active member.

He was extremely passionate about antique cars and spent many joyful years participating in car tours, shows and parades. He also loved the water—whether spending time down south or enjoying the lakes in Michigan.  These places brought him peace and happiness, especially while sharing them with family and friends.

Visitation will be Monday, February 2, 2026 at 11:00 am with a memorial service immediately following at 12:00 pm at Shepherd of the Lakes Lutheran Church in Brighton Michigan. Shepherd of the Lakes Lutheran Church | Home
